Unused credits should roll over to the next billing cycle.

Actually, it can be a win-win for both users and Windsurf.
Here are some guardrail ideas:
  • Cap rollover: limit how much can be carried forward per account (example: max 500 credits)
  • Sliding window: only a limited portion of rolled credits can be spent each month (example: max 200/month from rolled balance) to avoid one-time spikes
  • Expiration: rolled credits expire after a bounded period (example: 3 months)
  • QoS: rolled credits get lower priority than current-month credits (they can be queued or rate-limited under high load)
Why this is win-win:
  • Users (especially hobbyists) keep value they paid for and
are more likely to retain subscriptions
(This is the selling point IMO)
  • Windsurf keeps demand predictable, protects margin and infrastructure, and reduces "burn-before-month-end" behavior (which I guess happens today).

Out of kindness. Will the credits be cumulative or not, if anyone can answer, thank you!

No, it's ok now. Just use api and check how costly your API would be.

Yes, completely agreed. We've paid for it anyway, roll-over would be highly appreciated by everyone. And also differentiate yourself among other competitors in the market e.g cursor, trae etc.

In my country a service provider lost a court case for cancelling subscribed users' monthly credits. They were forced by the courts to roll it over for at least 3 months. This is unacceptable and unethical. If a user pays for 500 prompts, that user is entitled to 500 prompts. This is daylight robbery...I am very disappointed in this business model. I am looking at alternatives...

I personally like the Amazon Audible credit handling. Credits roll over, but you can only use them if you stay subscribed. The vendor gets solid user lock-in, and you get full value.

I completely agree and I find this practice too aggressive and dictatorial.

I don't agree. Do this and they will have to make you paid for each API call to stay in the green. And you won't laugh anymore. You don't require Amazon to deliver an empty box every day just because you have prime.

Windsurf is already the most competitivly priced platform when compared to claude code, cursor, and copilot, when you stop and look at credits. If a company looses money on the heaviest players then they have to make money some where. perhaps that's in unused token. My humble opinion anyway.
